Gents you may or may not be aware that nine leeds united supporters recieved 3 year banning orders based on evidence provided to a magistrate by the Police, this evidence was that they were drinking in a pub with others and the Police thought it might be because they were going to cause trouble.
i cant speak for all but i do know that one of those banned is a Trust member, a family man with no previous convictions or allegations made against him, he has no record of violence or disorder he was mereley attending an away game with mates of mates as probably all of us have done in the past and most of us will do in the future. some of you will be aware i provided the lad a personal character reference in my proffesional capacity previous to the hearing yesterday.
i am personally astonished at the outcome of this case and believe it has potentially very serious implications for other Trust members who i know have attended pubs both before and after away fixtures and have mixed with other Leeds fans they may never have seen before, i know this because i've been there notably at the spurs away cup game earlier this year hen it was clearly obvious the potential for trouble certainly after the game was there for all to see and hear as we were hoarded behind closed doors for our own safety after the final whistle. potentially both me and my wife could have been pictured by Police or by CCTV in and around the area and now be accused of being there to be involved in trouble as could at least three other Trust members i saw at the game and several people from waccoe also.
i am very worried about the implications of the rulings yesterday and the seemingly open door policy that the Courts are providing for the Police to make allegations based on photographs of people drinking or eating take away in a locality which they think might be problematic. Amanda Jacks (FSF) states simlar concern in her blog here where she makes very clear her concerns.
we none of us want a return to the tear away days of the eighties but it seems to me we have come full circle, were before those involved in violence ruled the streets it seems to me the Police now want diametrically opposed undemocratic and clearly unlawfull control even over those individuals who seek nothing more than to enjoy and away day supporting their club.
I am told the FSF and Liberty are investigating the human rights implications of this ruling but i would like to think as an independent body this Trust and is members would support any challenges or actions that may be brought against this ruling and support our member who has found himself a victim of nothing more than circumstance.
