Ownership Transparency - Board Statement Empty Ownership Transparency - Board Statement

Post by Super Cell on Thu Apr 01, 2010 8:41 am

Having consulted our members in relation to the ownership transparency issue we are now pleased to confirm our stance on the subject. We thank every member who took the trouble to contact us and put their views forward.

The common theme expressed by all of the respondents is that they wanted to know who the owners of Leeds United Football Club are. Our stance, therefore, is that we agree with the national policy of Supporters Direct, which is that all Football League clubs should be required to openly disclose their ultimate beneficial owners.

Whilst our members have made it clear that they wish for open disclosure of the ultimate beneficial owners of our football club the Trust board recognise that any club has the right, under the current Football League arrangements, to withhold that information. Nevertheless we will ask the question of the board of Leeds United and report back to members when we receive a response.

We also look forward to hearing the proposals of the new Football League chief executive, Greg Clarke, who has made football club ownership transparency a primary issue.

Some of our members suggested that we should pursue this issue immediately while others feel that we should wait until the end of the season before taking any concrete actions. This is a subject on which we will continue to welcome input from our members on the Leeds United Supporters Trust forum.

Further to this - we received a response and posted the following on the website:

The Leeds United Supporters' Trust recently approached the club on behalf of our members to ask the specific question:

Who are the ultimate and beneficial owners of Leeds United Football Club?

We have now received a response from the club:

"The answer to the question, as we have previously stated, is FSF Limited of whom the Chairman (Ken Bates) is the UK Representative"

We would like to again reiterate our stance on the issue: We agree with the national policy of Supporters Direct, which is that all Football League clubs should be required to openly disclose their ultimate beneficial owners. We also look forward to hearing the proposals of the new Football League chief executive, Greg Clarke, who has made football club ownership transparency a primary issue.
